Art Handlers play an incredibly important role in fine art logistics. As a Lead Art Handler, you will be responsible for applying your knowledge of the safe and secure movement of artworks and artifacts. You will assist in all aspects of preparation, packing, transporting, installation/deinstallation and storage of works for clients. The ideal candidate understands that the safety and security of artworks and of fellow team members is critical to both individual and company success. You will report to the Director of Operations. The Lead Art Handlers will be required to maintain a clean driving record and will regularly be required to drive vehicles for installations in the immediate region.

Responsibilities
  1. Understanding and execution of art handling fundamentals and practices

  2. Inspect artworks prior to handling to ensure proper handling and demonstrates care when handling objects of various mediums

  3. Understanding of archival and other packing materials for various mediums

  4. Complete wrapping and packing of works for transport or storage

  5. Safely load and secure objects on/in vehicles

  6. Move artworks to and from trucks, loading docks, storage facilities, client homes and businesses

  7. Maintain tool kit and be prepared for jobs as assigned

  8. Pickup and delivery of a wide range of works (sculpture, paintings, media) and mediums (i.e.: paint, mineral, organic)

  9. Installation and deinstallation of works as directed by clients in various settings: residential, commercial, corporate, institutional

  10. Professional installation of work, including use of proper tools and hardware

  11. May provide some recommendations on design, aesthetics and/or lighting when requested by clients

  12. Use good judgement in all aspects of the job

  13. Maintain A2 Art Storage & Services’ high expectations for customer service

  14. Complete required paperwork to ensure accuracy (work orders, inventories, bills of lading, and other required operational documents) and in a timely manner

  15. Complete condition notes and documentation as required

  16. Demonstrate understanding and use of both paper and electronic forms, proprietary and operational software

  17. Communicate with project managers, team members and dispatch personnel as needed to efficiently complete requests and update management or clients

  18. Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations

  19. Adapt to new working conditions, equipment, procedures and methods

  20. Maintain a clean, safe and respectful work environment both at the warehouse and in the field

  21. Must adhere to proprietary agreements: confidentiality, non-disclosure, privacy, security, non solicitation, and other employment provisions, as required to maintain the utmost in security

Requirements
  • Education: High School or GED; 4-year or Associates degree preferred

  • Experience: 2-5+ year art handling experience in a museum, gallery, artist studio, private collection or similar environment

  • Knowledge of and experience with basic computer software such as: Excel, Word, Outlook

  • Maintain reliable access to a motor vehicle, a valid driver’s license, satisfactory driver’s record and current automobile insurance

  • Able to complete a full background check

  • Experience with power tools, specifically carpentry tools, preferred
