MOCA Jacksonville seeks a qualified Lead Preparator for the installation and maintenance of exhibits, art collection and workshops.

Anticipated Start Date Inmediate. Salary $36,000/yr to negotiable. Generous Benefit Package.

Responsibilities

Typical Responsibilities include

Exhibitions

  • -Execution and managing of construction of installations and exhibition displays.

  • -Reception, unloading, unpacking and packing works of art.

  • -Developing exhibition design and associated renderings.

    • Designs and installs special configurations/pedestals for gallery display.
  • -Project Management and Installation Calendar planning and implementation

Departmental Responsibilities:

  • -Works with Registrar under supervision of the Curator to develop and enforce departmental procedures relating to proper art handling methods according to standard best museum practices.

  • -Maintains inventory of curatorial supplies and updates digital records for permanent collection inventory.

  • -Maintains gallery spaces, art storage areas and workshop areas.

  • -During a declared emergency, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off-site location or place of residence.

Supervision:

  • -Supervises installation team of up to four seasonal art installers and student assistants.

  • -Responsible for scheduling and maintaining temporary labor pool to consistently meet needs of department throughout the season.

Requirements
  • -Detail oriented, thorough, and knowledgeable of up-to-date museum art handling and packing standards.

  • -Interpersonal and communication skills;

  • -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • -Excellent planning and organizational skills, time and project management.

  • -Ability to supervise personnel effectively and collaborate and work as a team under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

  • -Ability to lift 100 lbs, work on high lifts and safely operate power tools. –General knowledge of construction methods and good painting and light carpentry skills.

  • -Ability to represent the museum with a high degree of professionalism and discretion when dealing with artists and various stakeholder groups such as lenders, donors, trustees, etc.

  • -Computer literacy ─ proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel required. Familiarity with SketchUp or other 3D design software a plus. –OSHA Compliant Aerial Lift Certification acquirement will be necessary once hired.

  • -Valid Driver’s License
