The Museum of Craft and Design (MCD) is the only museum in San Francisco devoted to craft and design. Founded in 2004, MCD showcases designers, makers, and artists through an exciting and distinctive series of craft and design-focused exhibitions and public programs. As a non-collecting institution, the museum actively collaborates with artists, designers, museums, and universities, as well as design venues and practitioners to create inspirational experiences in the world of craft and design for visitors of all ages.

The Marketing Assistant reports to the Marketing and Communications Director and is responsible for supporting the museum’s marketing campaigns and strategies, public relations efforts and assisting with brand enforcement to ensure consistency in content and messaging across all platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the development and distribution of electronic communications including MCD’s biweekly e-newsletter, digital announcements, and museum store promotions.

  • Develop creative and engaging content, maintain, schedule and monitor online material on all MCD social media platforms, ensuring new and consistent promotion of exhibitions, programs, memberships, and the museum store.

  • Assist with website maintenance and content management for sfmcd.org and shop.sfmcd.org. Help ensure websites reflect SEO best practices and best accessibility practices.

  • Assist with copywriting and editing for press releases, marketing materials, and other forms of media outreach.

  • Assist with promoting MCD’s exhibitions and programs to media and community; oversee calendar submissions to regional publications.

  • Assist with Marketing and PR administrative responsibilities as needed.

  • Regular distribution of MCD Collateral to the Dogpatch neighborhood and ability to attend evening neighborhood business meetings every other month.

Requirements
  • BA/BS degree in art history, journalism, communication, marketing or a related field and 3+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Must be proficient in MS Office, Google Drive, and back-end operations on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn).

  • Must possess excellent writing and editing skills and oral communication skills.

  • Design experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and photo editing preferred.

  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS and CMS platform (WordPress) preferred.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and must be able to work independently, quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Detail oriented and proactive.

  • Knowledge and appreciation of contemporary art, craft, and design.
