The Fowler Museum at UCLA is seeking experienced preparators and fabricators to join our crew for its Winter/Spring exhibitions.

Qualified candidates should have an interest in the arts and museum related work. Prior experience working in museum, gallery, cultural institution, or arts organizations is required.

Applicants must have strong skills in carpentry and woodworking, fabrication, and art handling, as well as strong communication, organization, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities
  • Install and secure scenic and display elements including wall panels, platforms, display cases, pedestals, labels, and signage.

  • Prepare frame materials including cutting mat boards, backing boards, plexiglass, and other frame package materials.

  • Handle artwork safely from unpacking to installation to re-packing and storage.

  • Operate standard industrial woodworking equipment and power tools.

  • Use museum-quality art installation hardware, object mounts, cleats, and security hardware.

Requirements
  • Strong skills in carpentry and woodworking, fabrication, and art handling, as well as strong communication, organization, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • This position is physically demanding with considerable lifting/building and full days on your feet.

  • Candidates must be able to lift/move a minimum of 50 lbs.

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with strong math and writing skills. (College level education preferred).

  • Ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. Continued employment contingent upon completion of satisfactory background investigation.

  • As a condition of employment, all hires will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy
