Responsibilities

Mat and frame work of art on paper and photographs in the National Gallery of Art collection, and as authorized, on new and proposed acquisitions and works of art on loan to the Gallery using accepted conservation materials and procedures while maintaining the aesthetic standards established by the Gallery.

Prepare special housings for the display and storage of bound volumes.

Assist the Head of Paper Conservation and other Matting and Framing Specialists in the coordination of matting, framing, and installation activities associated with exhibitions, loans, and storage, including the supervision of temporary contractors. Inform the Head of Paper Conservation of all problems or schedule conflicts and work to resolve them.

Assist with maintaining accurate records regarding work completed in the matting and framing studio, the location of works of art, and the documentation and inventory of frames and supplies.

Maintain the proper storage of works of art on paper and photographs in the National Gallery collections correcting any problems identified by conservators and curators.
