Reports to: Education Director
Status: Part-time, on-call, non-exempt; varied schedule, mostly weekends (generally 4-6 hour shifts)
Hourly Rate: $20 an hour
Under supervision of the Education Director, Educators implement and assist the Education Coordinator and Education Assistant in the production of MCD programs in the museum and in the community. Educators are responsible for day-of program facilitation, volunteer supervision, and supplies transportation between MCD and the event venue via either their personal vehicle or the MCD Mobile MakeArt van.
Primary Responsibilities
Represents MCD at public programs throughout the Bay Area.
Represents MCD at public signature programs with the museum.
Facilitates hands-on activities presented at various local events/locations including (but not limited to) Sunday Streets, Bayview Opera House, and local libraries.
Coordinates with Education Coordinator for pick up and delivery of MCD event supplies kit.
Supervision of in-event volunteers (ie: communicating set up/break down, giving activity overview, authorizing breaks, reporting issues or excellence as appropriate).
Documentation of event notes including participant tally and visitor comments.
Photo documentation of programs.
Additional Responsibilities
Knowledgeably inform visitors about the Museum of Craft and Design including location, current exhibitions, and program offerings. Be able to direct them to additional information.
Solicit sign ups for the MCD newsletter
Required Skills and Knowledge
High School degree or equivalency
Demonstrated promptness and reliability
Ability to successfully work independently, remotely, and in team environments
Demonstrated organizational skills and acute attention to detail
Possess excellent written, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills with people of all ages and backgrounds
Demonstrated outgoing personality with excellent collaborative skills and desire to learn
Possess positive attitude, initiative, sound judgment, and strong decision making skills
Creative eye, artistic confidence, general proficiency with art/craft materials
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
Multilingual (English and Spanish or Mandarin or Arabic)
Valid Driver’s license and willingness to operate the Mobile MakeArt van (2020 Ford Transit 250, Automatic). Able to pick up materials from MCD and travel to the location independently if the van is not available.

The physical requirements described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job at the museum. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The Educator must be able to maintain regular attendance in on-site work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and walk, sit for long periods of time, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
