Open Call for Stylists: fashion show & exhibition

The Strother School of Radical Attention (SoRA)

The Strother School of Radical Attention (SoRA), a Brooklyn-based non-profit, is inviting submissions from STYLISTS for wearable looks inspired by the aesthetics (and counter-aesthetics) of the Attention Economy: we are thinking about the textures, surfaces, rhythms, and patterns of the digital world that monetizes human attention, and the forms of life that bend and defy these dynamics.

Selected submissions will be featured in a fashion show and exhibition in September 2026 at the School’s Sanctuary Gallery in Brooklyn.

KEY DATES

● Deadline for submission: August 9, 2026

● Winning artists announcement: August 16, 2026

● Fashion show: September 19, 2026

Responsibilities

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

4 wearable looks inspired by the aesthetics (and counter-aesthetics) of the Attention Economy: we are thinking about the textures, surfaces, rhythms, and patterns of the digital world that monetizes human attention, and the forms of life that bend and defy these dynamics.

Prompt: We seek thoughtful responses to the constant demand for EYE-CATCHING content in the fashion industry. How can we resist human fracking through fashion? How can wearables salvage and retool toxic elements of the attention economy such as parasocial relationships, algorithmic marketing, and corporate image-making (branding)? How can we dress for the job future we want?

Our objective is collectively to fashion better ways for inviting and giving attention through fashion.

Requirements

ELIGIBILITY

● We welcome stylists of all disciplines. Even if you do not work with conventional garments, any maker who creates wearable objects for the human body are welcome.

● You can apply as an individual artist or an artist group. Each group will be considered a

single awardee in the distribution of the $500 cash prize.

● Applicants must be able to complete fitted looks by September 14.

● Applicants must be available in person in Brooklyn, NY between September 1-19 to work with models and prepare for the fashion show.

● Priority will be given to applicants who can also participate in-person for the exhibition opening in late September.

● After the end of the exhibition, the looks and any accompanying materials will be returned to you and you will retain full rights to your submissions. SoRA may utilize resulting photos and videos (with full credit) for not-for-profit distribution initiatives that advance our organization’s 501©(3) mission.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

● Originality: The looks may be new or existing, but must be your original work as a stylist or designer.

● Sustainability: We will prioritize looks created mainly from upcycled materials such as scrap fabric, deadstock, or parts of everyday items. However, we also invite other explorations on the life cycles of materials and various manners of giving life to overlooked or mundane materials.

● Consistency: We are looking for a strong connection between your take on our digital cultural landscape and the way your looks invite/shape attention (from models, from audiences, and from you, the stylist.)
