RAMAPO COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY

Established in 1969, Ramapo College offers bachelor’s degrees in the arts, business, humanities, social sciences and the sciences, as well as in professional studies, which include business, elementary education, nursing and social work. The College also offers articulated programs, including dental, optometry, chiropractic and health professions, as well as visual arts therapy and law, with colleges and institutions in New Jersey and New York.

Undergraduate students may choose to concentrate their studies in one of five schools with more than 539 course offerings and more than 36 academic programs. Job Summary:

Working with Director and Chief Art Handler/Registrar, aids in art collection, care and exhibition duties

Title: Part time Collections Management Assistant

Position Number: 230463

Position Type: Staff - Hourly

Department: Art Galleries

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: $17/hr. Up to 15 hours a week, as needed. Nights and weekends may be required. Must be flexible.

Responsibilities
  • Aids in art collection, care and exhibition duties including: inventory, documentation, requests for collection use, art handling, database work, insurance, student research and collection assignments, labels, condition reports, security, scholar requests, exhibition and collection filing, artwork research including new initiatives, photography requests, installation, possibly acting as second courier.

  • Assess collection conditions in an ongoing way.

  • Secure collection information for artist biographies. Align collection processes with state and federal laws.

  • Develop promotional and information systems for collections to better serve public. Move collection art in a vehicle.

  • Perform various other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in art, art history, museum studies, or related degree is required

  • One year experience with art documentation is preferred

  • Museum experience is preferred.

  • Required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.

  • Must successfully complete a Defensive Driver course offered by the College

  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Possess multi-tasking and coordination experience

  • Passion for art; history of involvement with the arts

  • Demonstrate attention to details while maintaining perspective

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Filemaker Pro or equivalent, Photoshop, and the Internet

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques essential to the performance of assigned responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability to gather and compile materials on art and exhibitions.

  • Competent in maintaining essential records and files.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with donor agreements and financial materials.
