François Ghebaly, Los Angeles seeks a part time Preparator. The Preparator will be tasked with art handling at the gallery and should be well acquainted with best practices for installation, de-installation, packing and care for contemporary artworks in a range of mediums.
The position is hourly and starts with a one day a week commitment from 10am to 6pm, with project-based additional time for exhibition turnover.
Responsibilities
Installation and de-installation of paintings, sculptures, media works, and other contemporary artworks for exhibition and private view
Careful and inventive packing for complex, sometimes very delicate artwork
Maintenance of artwork database
Assistance to Head Registrar on condition reporting, documentation, installation instruction documents
Repair and upkeep of gallery walls, pedestals, and public areas
Liaise with contractors for utility servicing as needed
Local offsite errands for gallery artists and clients as needed
Requirements
Demonstrated fine art handling experience
Familiarity with power tools and hardware
Familiarity with safe art packing techniques
Physical and digital organization skills
Valid driver’s license
4-Year Degree
