Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA), the leading auction house on the West Coast for modern and contemporary fine art and design, is seeking a part-time staff writer (minimum of 10 hours per week) to work remotely to create written content on select works in upcoming auctions. Under the direction of the Marketing & Communications Specialist, the part-time staff writer will produce essays for printed auction catalogues and blog posts to promote select works online.

This position pays $15 per hour with a minimum of 10 hours per week guaranteed.

Responsibilities
  • Write and edit essays (on average 500 words) on select works for the auction catalogue based on scholarly/curatorial materials

  • Write and edit blog posts on select works for online promotion based on scholarly/curatorial materials

  • Conduct interviews with artists, sellers, and LAMA specialists to research and promote select works

  • Research scholarly, reputable sources to support content

  • Proof and edit catalogue text for print and online

  • Other projects as assigned

Requirements

A minimum of two years’ experience in a writing position. Must have high attention to detail and be comfortable with accelerated deadlines and last-minute assignments. Able to provide quick turnaround on projects and react quickly to changing priorities. Able to handle competing priorities. Must be an effective team player with good organizational skills and excellent project implementation skills. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of current AP style standards. Must be able to assume personal ownership and accountability for projects, goals, deadlines, and outcomes.

Arts-related background is a major plus, but is not required.
