Seeking trans-masc performers for evening length performance, Chicago
Casting a devised, movement-based contemporary performance work, to be presented at the MCA Chicago stage and other venues. Directed by artist Jonas Becker, this work examines ways the body processes mass-cultural trauma, whether political, environmental, or otherwise.
This call is for trans-masculine identified folks interested in performing as part of my work New Normal. Movement experience required – though could be through performance, dance, or athletics. Experience with collaborative or devised performance preferred. The work is developed through conversation and experimental, improvised movement research during rehearsal; Many of the gestures and movements in the work are created collaboratively. This work is an expansion of a short performance to an evening length work for stage. In-person rehearsals and performance in Chicago.
This 45-minute performance addresses the “new normal.” The idea frames a process of coping with and normalizing mass cultural trauma, whether political, environmental, or otherwise. We respond to the shifting baseline of our current moment through endurance and illusion, struggle and support. Some radical bodies resist normalization, and for others, the new normal is nothing new. This performance explores the way the body mediates this process, testing our limits, adjusting, and readjusting. The performance is iterative and changes according to venue.
