Contemporary art gallery Corbett vs. Dempsey seeks full-time Preparator to join staff. The preparator will work closely with gallery staff on exhibition installations, artwork packing, shipping and storage. The candidate should be comfortable with a collaborative fast paced environment, taking direction from multiple people, and working closely with the gallery’s artists. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in advancing their art handling career.

Responsibilities

Oversee the safe packing, transportation and handling of artwork during pickups, deliveries and

installations

Work closely with Registrar, gallery staff, and artist(s) to properly care for all artworks
Manage gallery’s onsite and offsite artwork storage, under direction of Registrar
Coordinate and oversee all installation and deinstallation of artworks, including but not limited to gallery

exhibitions, art fairs and viewings

Train, supervise and manage part time freelance assistants during exhibition installations and as needed
Assist Registrar in maintaining and updating artwork database
Work closely with gallery staff to care for and maintain artwork storage and all gallery facilities

Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years experience in professional setting
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem solve in the moment
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail and a positive attitude are a must
Highly organized, proactive and comfortable working on long-term projects independently
Extensive knowledge of best artwork handling, storage and shipping practices
Experience with exhibition management and installation
Ability to carefully handle artwork objects, lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and reach in high and low

spaces
