Contemporary art gallery Corbett vs. Dempsey seeks full-time Preparator to join staff. The preparator will work closely with gallery staff on exhibition installations, artwork packing, shipping and storage. The candidate should be comfortable with a collaborative fast paced environment, taking direction from multiple people, and working closely with the gallery’s artists. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in advancing their art handling career.

  • Oversee the safe packing, transportation and handling of artwork during pickups, deliveries and


  • Work closely with Registrar, gallery staff, and artist(s) to properly care for all artworks

  • Manage gallery’s onsite and offsite artwork storage, under direction of Registrar

  • Coordinate and oversee all installation and deinstallation of artworks, including but not limited to gallery

exhibitions, art fairs and viewings

  • Train, supervise and manage part time freelance assistants during exhibition installations and as needed

  • Assist Registrar in maintaining and updating artwork database

  • Work closely with gallery staff to care for and maintain artwork storage and all gallery facilities



  • Minimum 5 years experience in professional setting

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem solve in the moment

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills

  • Attention to detail and a positive attitude are a must

  • Highly organized, proactive and comfortable working on long-term projects independently

  • Extensive knowledge of best artwork handling, storage and shipping practices

  • Experience with exhibition management and installation

  • Ability to carefully handle artwork objects, lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and reach in high and low
