LAXART is looking for hands-on, detail-oriented preparators, to join the part-time team responsible for the preparation and installation of temporary exhibitions and other art handling projects. Working under the direction of LAXART’s head preparator, LAXART works to assure a safe and healthy work environment through knowledge of best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Preparators are responsible for museum-quality art handling related to installation and de-installation, including; receiving, packing and unpacking, handling, and displaying fine art objects; planning and directing the fabrication of exhibition pedestals, props, temporary walls, etc.
Requirements
  • Demonstrates a good knowledge of standard museum procedures with an emphasis on art/object handling and care with a minimum of one year of experience.

  • Familiar with art object handling and installation, and art object packing and crating.

  • Familiarity with presentation technology such as media players and projectors.

  • Must be able to work as part of a team and have good communication skills and maintain professional working relationships with all staff.

  • Proficiency in light carpentry, wall painting and masking.
