Duties are varied and include (but are not limited to) packing, shipping, and receiving artworks. The preparator/registrar is also responsible for organizing and maintaining the storage of the gallery’s inventory insuring that all artworks are safely packed and the location properly recorded. The employee will oversee mounting and framing of artworks, and in-town deliveries. The preparator/registrar will be responsible for exhibition installation and de-installation as well. There will also be occasional image management; artwork cataloguing; website maintenance; photography (of both artworks and exhibition installations); administrative work (filing, email correspondence, etc.); dealing with the public; and general gallery assistance.

The position is 4 days/week (32 hours/week) at the rate of $18.00/hour. 6 months after the official hire date, a performance review will be conducted, and the hourly rate can be discussed again at that time. After that, the hourly pay rate is revisited every year along with a performance review.

After the first 6-month review, there are 10 days of paid vacation/year; 5 paid sick or personal days/year; and as much unpaid time off requested (as long as the time off is cleared at least 3 weeks in advance).

Requirements

1: prior experience as an art handler

2: work experience in a gallery or museum setting
