Large, fast-paced world class contemporary artist’s studio with a multi-disciplinary practice seeks a full-time multimedia sculpture and production manager to lead a studio team of fabricators and external vendors.

Must be a highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter with expert knowledge of resin, wood, and metal.

This is a full-time, salaried position with 2-weeks vacation built in. Salary to commensurate with experience. The position offers health care, dental, vision and 401k plans. Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities

Role overview:

  • Work closely with artist on piece conception to completion including sculptures, paintings, ceramics, studio infrastructure, and any other fabrication needs

  • Oversee team of 5+ fabricators. Assign and manage day-to-day task lists and larger project timelines to ensure all pieces are completed to artist specifications and on deadline. - Relay feedback to team on artist’s behalf

  • Work with artist to establish shop priorities. Communicate priorities with the fabrication team and greater studio

  • Maintain a clean and organized work space. Know where everything is at all times

  • Work with the artist, exhibitions manager, and studio manager on all fabrication logistics related to exhibition planning including but not limited to piece’s display needs (pedestals, vitrines, etc.), show installation guides, deinstallation guides, and shipping/packing needs

  • Manage shop ordering. Ensure shop is well-stocked at all times

  • Locate new vendors when needed. Present clear quotes, options, and samples for artist approval

  • Manage and serve as main point of contact for external fabrication vendors including but not limited to bronze atelier, fine woodworking furniture production, metal work, etc. Be in constant communication with vendor to translate artist feedback and ensure work is completed to code

  • Ideate with artist on future exhibitions or piece ideas

  • Ensure fabrication team has proper skills needed to complete tasks. Teach/train on new techniques when necessary

Requirements

Required skills:

  • Proficiency with standard shop tools (tablesaw, chop saw, circular saw, jigsaw, bandsaw, bench grinder, belt sander, orbital sander, drill press, etc)

  • Proficiency with Rhino 3D and ability to work from both detailed CAD drawings and informal sketches

  • Computer savvy (Mac)

  • Ability to lift 50lb unassisted

  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings, architectural blueprints, and renderings

  • Welding: Mainly TIG with steel/stainless steel. Ability to weld aluminum & titanium, as well as MIG welding and brazing are a bonus

  • Electrical: Understanding of wiring DC and AC electrical components. Able to use a multimeter, soldering, constructing basic circuits including switches, LEDs and other components. Experience with amplifiers and other AV equipment

  • Experience with Epoxy Resin and/or mold making
