Marianne Boesky Gallery seeks a Part-Time Preparator for its Chelsea locations. We are looking for someone who can commit to two or more day’s per week (Saturday included), 10am to 6pm, with the possibility of additional hours during openings, installations, de-installations, art fairs and special projects as needed. The Preparator will be involved in all aspects of art handling at the gallery. The ideal candidate will be fully versed in the installation/de-installation and care of complex contemporary artworks in multiple mediums in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Installation/de-installation at the gallery, including private viewings and exhibitions
Help maintain a safe storage environment for all artwork on premises
Update and maintain artwork location and sub-locations for all works whether onsite or offsite
Perform inventory checks at off-site storage facilities as needed and scheduled by head preparator
Museum quality packing for all incoming and outgoing works
Create incoming and outgoing condition reports, installation and care instructions for artwork
Upkeep of clean and professional gallery appearance in public and private spaces by maintaining and repairing all gallery walls
Help maintain prep areas in a safe, clean and workable manner
Minimum 3 years art handling experience in a similar role at a gallery, museum or comparable arts organization (preferably in NYC)
Bachelor’s degree, with a focus on art history or visual art
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Organized, detail oriented and exceptional problem solving skills
Capacity to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines
Some familiarity with fabrication, wood work and skim-coating
Familiarity in ArtBase, Microsoft Office and Adobe products
