An established contemporary art gallery in downtown New York seeks a knowledgeable and experienced registrar. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of gallery inventory management and logistics.
Coordinating local and domestic interstate shipping
Set crating specifications and arrange production
Incoming loans; outgoing loan paperwork
Incoming/outgoing consignments
Insurance certificates
Customs paperwork and VAT calculations
International shipping logistics
Full inventory management of gallery property
Monthly physical inventory of artworks on premises
Fulfillment of image requests for clients
Digital filing and cataloguing of all new incoming images to the Image drive
Gallery Manager inventory records
Certificates of authenticity / distribution to clients
Preparing of all paper records for sales tax purposes
All archival filing of artwork transport records
Liaise with clients and consignors for shipping and storage
Arrange shipping in and out of offsite storage
Manage empty crate inventory for adaptive reuse
Label all artwork
Create condition reports
Assistant for physical installations
Update “On View” saved set in Gallery Manager
Additionally, the qualified candidate will have a working knowledge of contemporary art and familiarity with artists’ materials, as well as fluency in accepted standards and best practices in Gallery/Museum registration and collection management. Candidate must be well-spoken and presentable, extremely detail-oriented, highly organized and able to multi-task under pressure. Discretion and confidentiality are key. Good writing and computer skills essential; proficiency in Word, Excel, and art database programs required. Candidates with an M.A. in Museum Studies or Arts Administration are encouraged to apply.
