You’re skilled at and enjoy starting up a conversation, sharing your knowledge, listening carefully, and helping customers discover their next favorite piece. You love art and can speak about it confidently and engagingly with others. You’re organized, detail-oriented, and always ready to go the extra mile.

You’re a fast learner and can easily translate your abilities and skills from other experiences to new endeavors. Ideally, you’ve worked in the arts, studied art, and have a decent understanding of contemporary art/ the art world. You also have a track record of success in high-end or luxury sales and some social media, marketing, and design skills.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

  • Be the front face of the gallery, welcoming guests with your warm smile and expert guidance.

  • Turn art browsers into art buyers without being pushy about it.

  • Switch hats regularly to assist as needed with the multi-faceted aspects of day-to-day gallery operations, including art handling, gallery cleaning, artist relations, website updates, running errands, patching and painting, helping with art installs, evening events, and packing artwork.

  • If you have experience with social media design and marketing, there’s a chance you might work with our team to enhance and expand our reach and connection with clients and followers.

  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently

  • Maintain a clean and organized sales floor S

  • Stock shelves and merchandise products

  • Conduct product demonstrations and answer customer inquiries

  • Meet and exceed sales targets

  • Positive Attitude: Maintains an optimistic outlook, even in the face of setbacks or challenges

  • Dedication and Commitment: Takes ownership of responsibilities, is highly motivated, and consistently goes above and beyond to achieve results

  • Excellent Communication Skills: The ability to articulate ideas clearly, listen actively, and adapt communication style to different customers is essential - able to describe artwork in an engaging and informative way

  • Sales-Oriented: A drive to achieve sales goals and a focus on customer satisfaction is essential. The salesperson should be motivated by the challenge of closing sales and building long-term relationships with clients

  • Proactive and Self-Motivated: The salesperson should seek out opportunities to engage with customers, anticipate challenges, identify solutions, be resourceful in finding solutions, and take initiative to address issues before they escalate

  • Reliability and Responsibility: Follows through on commitments, meets deadlines, and takes responsibility for their actions and decisions

  • Professional and Presentable: Maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor is essential in representing the gallery and its artists

  • Detail-Oriented: Paying attention to detail is crucial for accurately processing sales transactions, maintaining inventory records, and ensuring the gallery is well-presented

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience: Previous retail sales experience, preferably in an art gallery or similar environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong sales aptitude

  • Knowledge of art and design principles, methods of art making, contemporary art, and the art world.

  • Strong computer skills

  • Ability to stand for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds

  • Ability to handle fragile artwork with care

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, fine arts, or a related field

  • Experience with art inventory management software

  • Event planning experience

  • Art Knowledge: A strong understanding of contemporary/historical art, cultural relevance of the arts, art materials, and techniques

  • Exceptional communication/sales skills: Excellent verbal and written communication about art with ease and confidence

  • Empathy and Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and responding to customers’ emotions, building trust and rapport with customers from a range of backgrounds and points of view

  • Creativity and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to think creatively and find solutions to customer needs

  • Social Media Creation/Management, Marketing, Writing, and Design Skills: Demonstrated experience creating engaging art content, marketing copy, and writing
