Atelier FAS, LLC is seeking an eager and qualified Senior/Experience Art Handler for a full time (4-5 days a week) position to work as part of a team of art handers in the successful completion of art services tasks including, but not limited to, art installation, transportation, art exhibition packing, crating, and storage warehouse registration and organization. The Senior Art Handler reports directly to the Art Technician for daily operations in the successful completion of each project and must have a clean-cut professional appearance at all times. Prior experience is required.

Atelier FAS, LLC is a full-service fine art services company with locations in New York, Philadelphia and Delaware. Atelier works directly with major cultural institutions and prominent private collections as well as major national and international galleries. Atelier FAS has two museum-quality storage facilities on the East Coast, and employs staff in the areas of Client Services, Logistics, Operations, Art Handling, Registration, Fabrication, Storage and Security.

Pay rate is between $26.04 to $27.94 an hour

Responsibilities

General duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Assist the Art Technician in best practices and acts as team leader

  • Oversees the daily management of one Art Handler team member

  • Acts as lead for two person jobs/projects

  • Provides critical feedback to Art Technician

  • Reviews Atelier’s Calendar in preparation of the days/weeks/months ahead and to fully understand scheduled jobs and be able to direct the Art Handler team appropriately.

  • Works with Art Technician to oversee the assigned tools and truck(s) to Art Handling Team; relays relevant maintenance information for vehicles to Art Technician

  • Manages Art Handler performance upholding Atelier’s policies and standards

  • Responsible for the coordination of projects with oversight from the Art Technician

  • Understands assigned projects, directing his/her team members.

  • Keeps lines of communication open between Art Handling staff and Client Services regarding project details

  • Good understanding and judgment in the handling and conveyance of collection objects as it relates to the condition, media, placement, and weight of objects


  • Activities such as unframing and reframing of paintings and works on paper may be required, securing new hardware to frames, removal of objects from display cases, and the set-up and dismantling of scaffolding and ladders may be required

Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • BA or BFA with at least 2 years of relevant experience at an art handling company, or similar

  • Can demonstrate a general understanding of tools and materials

  • Experience with museum best practices and standards

  • The ability to work in a high-pressure environment while keeping a cool head

  • Dedication to the Atelier culture of excellence in art stewardship

Other requirements:

  • Physically capable of lifting objects weighing up to 80 pounds; physically capable of moving objects weighing up to 150 pounds; and physically capable of climbing ladders up to 20 feet and working on scaffolding and lifts of at least 30 feet; physically capable of using hand tools such as drills, hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches

  • Some computer use plus the ability to see and ascertain the condition of artworks as they are being handled

  • Telephone use, ability to hear instructions as an object is being handled and moved

  • Drivers license and experience driving 26ft box trucks is a plus (CDL not required.)
