The Senior Preparator at UCR ARTS is responsible for all aspects of preparation and production of approximately 14 exhibitions annually. Experience in coaching and supervising students, interns, and volunteers for best performance.
Experience in light construction techniques.
Experience in dry mounting and cutting exhibition text panels and captions.
Minimum of 3 years experience working in the arts or related environment.
Minimum of 1 year of preparatory experience in a museum or art gallery field; or graduation from college with a major in a selected discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skill in the use of conventional and power tools for modeling and exhibition design including temporary wall building, finish carpentry, and preparing and painting walls.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines with close attention to detail.
Knowledge/practice of conservation techniques and use of materials in preparation and care of works on paper and photographic materials (matting/framing).
Knowledge/practice of audio, video, and other technological installations.
Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills applicable to a deadline oriented, creative, and academic atmosphere.
Knowledge/practice in packing/shipping/receiving and care of a variety of fine arts objects and materials.
Ability to move objects weighing 40lbs.
Proven record of efficient independent performance in supervising and installing fine art exhibits under strict time lines taking responsibility for results.
