We are seeking a dynamic contributor to the overall creative processes and workflows of a team-oriented studio. Creativity and collaboration are at the heart of our studio ethos. The position has the possibility to evolve into a full-time role for the right candidate with additional studio-based skills.

The assistant will work under the direction of the Artist and with members of our studio team. The artist works predominantly in sculpture (plaster, clay, concrete, wood, and bronze) as well as painting and collage. Primary areas of expertise needed include:

  • Painting (painting session prep/clean-up, materials management, stretching canvases, studio organization, etc.)

  • Collage fabrication (construction of boards, tacking, gluing, etc.)

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

  • Painting studio organization. Prepare art-making materials, and gather supplies and tools. Prepare painting surfaces, stretch canvases, gesso, and fine-finish paintings and collages.

  • Design and construction of collage surfaces using woodworking and power tools.

  • Prepare work according to Artist specifications; maintain equipment and tools, materials, and supplies; ability to alter designs as needed; support preparation of artwork production cost reports.

  • Support the artist in painting and collage production. Transfer of collage works to permanent surface. Mounting materials for finished work including gluing using brush, roll, and tape roll.

  • Consistently maintain studios and gallery premises neat, clean, and in an organized manner. Support organization and maintenance of studio/gallery logs, artwork inventory management, and other studio-related documents.

  • Support the studio team as needed to complete projects under the direction of the artist and in a timely manner. Ensure projects remain on schedule, and work as a team with other studio members.

  • Actively maintain and manage studio/gallery equipment and materials. Organizing supplies and maintaining appropriate inventory levels of materials, supplies, equipment, and tools

  • Follow safety procedures in handling studio equipment. Ensure compliance with studio procedures and standards.

Requirements

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts or related field

  • Good color sense, able to easily differentiate between similar colors, knowledge of various pigments and painting mediums and materials. Knowledgeable in the fine art painting process including tools, materials, and surfaces.

  • Experience using power tools (drills, saws, hand tools)

  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with the team

  • Experience handling artwork. Able to work on both small and large-scale artworks with a high level of detail.

  • Able to problem solve and stay organized

  • Ability to maintain a clean, professional, and organized workspace

Additional Skills a Plus

  • Photography and photography editing experience

  • 3D software experience

  • Woodworking experience

  • Fine art framing experience

  • Sculpture experience

LOCATION

The position is based in Bethlehem, PA. Bethlehem is part of the Lehigh Valley in eastern PA on the NJ border. Conveniently located under 75 miles to NYC and less than 50 miles from Philadelphia.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid Driver’s License. Ability to commute/relocate based on position location.

  • Able to lift materials between 25 -50 lbs as needed.

  • Studio work hours are Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm. The part-time hours for this position are flexible.
