Preservation Art seeks a qualified Studio Technician 4-5 days a week who will be responsible for best handling practices of artwork including packing, storage, registration/tracking, installation, deliveries, day to day facility operations, vehicle maintenance, and other projects as directed. The technician may be required to assist conservators with aspects of treatment under supervision both in the studio and outdoors.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the proper handling, packing and delivery of art objects.

  • Should be knowledgeable in all safe art handling practices: installation, wrapping, and packing.

  • Must be able to load secure and transport to and from diverse locations while following company policies and best practises.

  • Knowledge and experience with art installation techniques.

  • Work closely in collaboration with the Conservation & Collections Manager and Director assist with the expansion of the installation and delivery services,

  • Registration, tracking and handling for incoming client conservation projects.

  • Assist with the logistics and deliveries for incoming/outgoing artwork.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of art storage, studio and material supplies.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, Studio Arts, Design or similar field or commensurate work experience.

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience as preparator or in a similar position in a museum, gallery or arts organization.

  • Extensive experience with art handling, deliveries, storage, packing, crating and installation.

  • Thorough knowledge of construction techniques, materials and tools.

  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time..

  • Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to identify problems and resolve quickly.

Working Conditions: Applicants must be comfortable with working in a team environment or independently. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to work occasional evenings.

General Time Commitment: This position is full time with benefits.

Physical Demands: This position will include a large amount of moving between sites. It requires an ability to stand, walk, move and remain active consistently and for lengthy periods. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
