Long Island City based artist is seeking a highly motivated New York-based individual to work 5 days per week as a studio technician and assistant.

The candidate will work with the artist on a wide variety of projects, and should have significant experience to attend to all aspects of the artist’s studio activities.

The candidate should have a familiarity with the artist Kevin Beasley’s work and have an extensive knowledge of black contemporary art and related issues.

This position is paid hourly, and salary is commensurate with experience. Start date as early as May 3rd.

Responsibilities
  • Ability to support the artist in all areas of production, especially with artwork fabrication and shop work.

  • Ability to support with sourcing, research, filing and archiving.

Requirements
  • Excellent hand and production skills, extremely organized and detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.

  • Three years experience in sculptural processes and fabrication is necessary, including casting, mold making, welding, wood and metal working.

  • Comfort and willingness to work with resin (polyurethane, urethane), silicone, wax, wood, metal and other sculptural materials.

  • The candidate should be self-motivated, capable of working independently and proactively to solve problems at hand.

  • Must be able to lift heavy boxes and objects (50lbs plus).

  • An interest in contemporary art, art production and a familiarity with various studio practices are advantageous.

  • An interest in sound, video and multimedia highly preferred as this is central to the artist’s practice.

  • Knowledge of PC and Mac platforms, Microsoft Office, and Photoshop strongly preferred.
