Preservation Arts seeks a Studio Technician who will be responsible for handling artwork in the studio including packing, tracking, occasional deliveries with installation, Anoxia pest monitoring, facility operations, and other projects as directed. The technician may occasionally be required to assist conservators both in the studio and outdoors.
This position is full-time, 4 or 5 days per week with benefits.
Work closely in collaboration with the Director of Collections and Conservation to ensure the safety of objects in the studio as well as onsite.
Ensure the proper moving, handling, packing, delivery and storage for a wide range of art objects.
Proper handling of art objects, using best practice methods and materials for packing, loading and securing for safe transportation.
Facilitate safe storage for incoming projects and long term storage of works. Should be knowledgeable in all safe art handling practices including packing, installation and transportation.
Required to have working knowledge and experience with art installation techniques and occasionally will install or deinstall artworks onsite, and troubleshoot using working experience for scope of work.
In collaboration with the Client Services Manager, responsible for execution of incoming/outgoing paperwork, documentation of packing and receiving and releasing artworks from the Studio facilities.
In collaboration with the Client Services Manager, assist with logistics for deliveries.
Maintain the organization of art storage, studio and material supplies.
Will assist with the day to day needs of pest facility management of anoxia bubble, tracking, data recording, building enclosures, monitoring and other responsibilities as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, Studio Arts, Design or similar field or commensurate work experience.
At least 3-5 years’ experience as a preparator or in a similar position in a museum, gallery or arts organization.
Experience with art handling, deliveries, storage, packing, and installation of small artworks.
Thorough knowledge of construction techniques, materials and tools.
Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time.
Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools.
Familiarity with the use of hand trucks, pallet jacks, jbars, dollies and other moving equipment needed.
Excellent communication skills with ability to identify problems and resolve quickly.
Ability to manage multiple projects while establishing and meeting deadlines
Strong initiative and follow-through skills, and an ability to operate independently as well as in a team setting.
Creative and flexible problem solving skills
Sound judgment and professional presence.
Clean driving record and ability to drive a Sprinter Van.
