As an essential member of the museum’s leadership team, the Milton Fine Curator of Art is charged with building upon Andy Warhol’s life, art, and legacy through exhibitions, publications, and public programs.

Responsibilities

Working collaboratively across the organization, the Curator will effectively team with Learning and Public Engagement; Exhibitions; Collections, Registration, Archives, Performing Arts and Public Programming; and senior leadership to plan and implement a comprehensive vision for the museum’s curatorial endeavors. With a total collection of more than 7,000 two dimensional pieces of art, 100 sculptures, over 400 films, hours of audio recordings, and nearly 500,000 archival objects and ephemera, one of the Curator’s primary roles is to provide a framework for understanding and connecting to Warhol through the curation of internal exhibitions, installations, and public art across the museum campus. In addition, they will contribute curatorial insights and partnership for external exhibitions, programming, and events. Alongside the Director of the Museum, the Curator will support connecting the museum and Advisory Board to a larger network of artists, galleries, and museums locally, nationally, and internationally.

QUALFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

An advanced graduate degree is required, as is a minimum of five years of museum experience.

The candidate must be an expert in contemporary art and have an in-depth knowledge of Andy Warhol, his life and his times—as well as a commitment to stewarding his legacy.

They should have a strong exhibition, publishing, and touring background, preferably on a national and/or international stage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

The Curator must have a successful track record of curatorial achievement in the areas of exhibitions and publications, along with an understanding of the principles and practices of audio-visual collections care and management.

Must have strong collaborative, interpersonal and problem-solving capabilities, including the ability to be an effective leader, motivator, and team member.

Enthusiasm, creativity, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.

Must be eager to assume a role within the local community, and within the national and international art world.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and basic office equipment is required.

This position will be expected to gain proficiency with TMS and NetX, the museum’s collections and digital asset management software, and to have familiarity with project management systems like Basecamp.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit, walk, and stand for varying periods of time, and to travel nationally and internationally, are required.

Ability to handle works of art, up to 25 lbs.

Moderate travel is expected.
