The Visitor & Museum Services Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for the recruiting, registration, scheduling, assigning and evaluation of volunteers serving Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, the central offices of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, The Andy Warhol Museum and Powdermill Nature Reserve. As well as responsible for supervising visitor-facing volunteers.

Responsibilities

Recruits and matches volunteers and interns to the needs of various CMP departments and staff (300-400 active volunteer personnel).

Works closely with staff at Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, the central offices of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, The Andy Warhol Museum and Powdermill Nature Reserve to understand museums’ volunteer and internship needs.

Streamlines and implements current systems of volunteer applications, background checks and record-keeping to expedite volunteer registration process.

Maintains database of volunteer clearances and timeline of clearance expirations.

Assists perspective and current volunteers with obtaining clearances, and notifies current volunteers and their supervisors of pending clearance expirations.

Creates volunteer benefit programs, including annual Volunteer Luncheon and monthly Volunteer Coffees.

Assists in resolving conflicts among volunteers and between volunteers and staff.

Supervises, trains, assigns, schedules and conducts briefings for Information Volunteers for Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History.

Represents Carnegie Museums at intern and volunteer recruitment fairs. Stays up to date and researches current best practices of volunteer management and recruiting.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Prefer an undergraduate degree with two years supervisory experience in nonprofit management and volunteer management.

Experience in training and scheduling staff and resolving personnel conflicts required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational and presentation skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires ability to quickly access remote areas of the museum and to be on foot nearly 50% of the workday.

Must travel to various CMP campuses and recruitment fairs for volunteers and interns in Pittsburgh.
