Blum & Poe Los Angeles is seeking a full-time Warehouse Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Director of Operations, the Director of Logistics, Registrars, and Head Prep to manage organization and tracking of inventory and oversee the movement and installation of artworks throughout our viewing spaces and warehouses

  • Alongside the Head Prep assist with the preparation and packing of artworks to and from art fairs

  • Alongside the Head Prep oversee shipments to and from the gallery and warehouse

  • Prepare spaces for client viewings and photography including painting, patching, and artwork installation

  • Alongside the Director of Operations manage and train a team of preparators at the warehouse

  • Work closely with Registrars to ensure that locations are up-to-date and records are accurate at storage sites and in the database

  • Maintain detailed overview and knowledge of our storage spaces

  • Oversee receiving and releasing artworks and loading and off-loading trucks

  • Assist with local collections and deliveries

  • Oversee the proper packing of artworks for transport and storage

  • Lead training exercises on packing, handling and installation techniques as necessary

  • Oversee regular maintenance of warehouse tools and equipment

  • Maintain understanding of exhibition schedule to forecast storage needs and warehouse improvement projects

  • Alongside the Director of Operations and the Head Prep work closely with the sales staff on any preparation for viewings and/or needs for potential sales

  • Support the Registrars and Photographer(s) in documenting all artworks, and condition reporting

  • Alongside the Registrars, assist with conservation projects

  • Keep viewing spaces and warehouses clean, safe, and client-ready

  • Oversee inventory of materials to support all storage and shipping needs

  • Assist the Communications team in overseeing the preparator crew to help with book shipments

  • Update and prioritize daily prep to-do-list collaborating with the Director of Logistics, Director of Operations and the Head Prep

  • Participate in the weekly logistics meetings

  • Participate in the weekly staff meetings

  • Lead morning meetings with warehouse preparator staff

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years extensive experience working as a preparator and handling a variety of artworks at a contemporary art gallery, art handling company, or museum.

  • Knowledge and application of art handling best practices

  • Must be a positive and supportive team player, able to address new challenges

  • Ability to take initiative, multitask, and work graciously in a fast-paced environment

  • Detail-oriented and extremely well organized

  • Strong communication skills

  • Proficient knowledge of fine art logistics including installation, packing, shipping, and storage

  • The ability to safely lift 50 lbs, as well as the safe use of power tools, ladders, and warehouse equipment

  • Clean driving record holding a current CA driver’s license

  • Experience operating warehouse equipment - forklifts, stackers, pallet jacks

  • Background in carpentry/construction

  • Experience driving a box truck

  • Familiarity with Artbase and Microsoft Office
