Starting Compensation: $17.00/hr
Status: Part Time
The Weekend Store Associate provides a welcoming and warm reception to visitors of the Museum of Craft and Design (MCD) and is responsible for providing an exceptional level of customer service in selling admission tickets and merchandise. The Store Associate provides accurate and detailed product information to customers and is required to be well versed on MCD’s exhibitions and programs. The Store Associate will assist in creating and executing creative displays and in keeping merchandise well stocked, tidy, and organized on the sales floor and in the storage areas.
Greet and assist visitors with a friendly and courteous manner in purchasing admission, merchandise, museum membership and event tickets.
Actively approach and advise customers to increase sales.
Provide accurate and clear information on merchandise, exhibitions and programs of MCD, and features of the Dogpatch neighborhood.
Complete financial transactions including sales, returns, credits and applicable discounts efficiently and accurately. Provide gift wrapping service.
Tag new merchandise and display in store. Tidy merchandise and displays throughout the day. Re-stock merchandise and keep store and storage area organized and clean.
Complete opening and closing procedures with complete accuracy and attention to detail
Assist with other duties as assigned. These may include activities to further the development of the store, such as assisting in maintaining the online store
Minimum AA degree and/or coursework in business or art practice/art history or equivalent combination of training and experience
Minimum of two years of retail experience, in an art orientated environment or a high-end specialty store
Demonstrated experience and interest in the arts. Previous gallery or museum experience preferred and/or art practice experience.
Exceptional selling skills; ability to share enthusiasm for merchandise and MCD.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate problems and insure constructive problem resolution, exhibit initiative, sound judgment, and a positive attitude.
Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and in a team environment.
Experience and skill in processing sales transactions, working with a cash register and computer inventory system, and a basic understanding of retail inventory and accounting.
Demonstrated ability for accurate work and attention to detail.
Demonstrated punctuality and dependability, commitment and ability to work a flexible schedule around events and absences of store employees.
Interest in and commitment to the mission of the Museum of Craft and Design
Knowledge of Altru database and Mac savviness a plus
