Powerhouse Arts is seeking skilled Wood and Metal Fabricators to join our team on a project-basis. As a Wood and Metal Fabricator, you will report to the Director of Wood and Metal. In this role, you will work directly on the fabrication of artworks using a variety of methods, including carpentry, welding, machining and CNC assisted fabrication methods. This role may also include being called on to participate in fabrication and engineering planning sessions, as well as assisting in maintenance of the Wood and Metal shop equipment. The ideal candidate will have a track record of both working in collaboration with teams as well as organizing projects on their own from conception to completion
Responsibilities will include:
Project Execution:
Under the direction of the Director of Wood and Metal, execute fabrication projects efficiently and on schedule
Participate in project fabrication strategy and scheduling for incoming new projects
Collaborate with other staff and departments as needed
Shop Organization:
Keep the shop organized and tidy
Assist in the maintenance of workshop machinery
Strictly follow health and safety protocol and best practices, and participate in health and safety training as needed
Desired Skills:
Expert knowledge and experience MIG and TIG welding all common materials, primarily steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
Metal forming and bending
Significant experience and comfort with manual machining tools, such as the metal lathe and milling machine
Proficiency in woodshop fabrication, both in manual edge tools and with power woodworking tools
Ability to read, understand, and precisely follow technical drawings
Comfort and basic understanding of electrical schematics and assembly
Comfort and experience with patina and wood and metal finishing processes and chemicals, especially water based and eco-friendly alternatives
Comfort and experience working around unconventional materials such as textiles, printmaking or ceramics
CNC Router setup and operation experience is a plus
Qualifications
7+ Years of experience in Wood and Metal fabrication
Very fine attention to detail and appreciation of quality work
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Working knowledge of OSHA standards, and health and safety best practices
Experience working with artists, galleries, fabricators and institutions
Salary: $35/hour
