Hard Pack Magazine is seeking an experienced art handler and fabricator to design, fabricate, and install 6-8 projection screens for a group show taking place on October 11, 2024 in New York City. The screens will be used to display multiple films within a single exhibition space. The ideal candidate will have experience working with projection setups and collaborating with artists and gallery teams.
Design & Fabrication: Develop custom projection screens that align with the aesthetic vision of the exhibition. Solutions should be clean, sleek, and effectively suit the space.
Installation: Install 6-8 projection screens during the load-in period on October 9-10 in collaboration with the gallery team and within the given space constraints.
Coordination: Work closely with the gallery team responsible for installing projectors to ensure seamless integration between projectors and screens.
Problem Solving: Provide creative solutions and help source materials for projection screens, including exploring alternative options like framing drywall, using reflective paint, or other approaches based on budget and space requirements.
Collaboration: Liaise with the artist and curator to ensure the projection setup aligns with the overall artistic vision, addressing any specific technical or aesthetic needs.
Proven experience in art handling, fabrication, and installation, particularly in the context of projection or AV setups.
Carpentry experience required.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative, cost-effective solutions.
Ability to collaborate with artists, curators, and gallery teams.
Experience working under tight deadlines and with budget constraints.
