Gander and White Shipping, Inc. is seeking a skilled Art Handler/Installer for a full-time position with Medical/Dental/401K/Paid time off benefits.
Open to part-time positions on a situational basis.
Responsibilities
Duties
The primary responsibility of the art handler is to prepare artworks, objects d'art, and antiques for both domestic and international transport. The handler will prepare shipments by packing and/or crating each work as necessary in order to ensure safe transport to the final destination while following Gander & White standards and best practices. This position reports to the Operations Manager as well as working in conjunction with the Fine Art Project Manager.
Responsibilities
o Preparation, Packing, Crating and Storing artworks, objects, and antiques in accordance with Gander & White standards and best practices
o Work closely with Packing Shop, Crating Shop and Project Managers to ensure shipments meet required deadlines and packing requirements
o Accurately complete all paperwork (packing, crating, BOL orders) and ensure that each artwork is labeled accurately and appropriately
o Generate accurate and descriptive condition reports and Artichek level of photo documentation
o Install and de-install works at local, regional and national art fairs
o Effective communications with Project Managers about changes in job scope, condition, packing/crating orders, schedules, deadlines, etc.
o Maintain a clean and safe work environment
o Maintain confidentiality of clients’ personal property and privacy
Requirements
o 1-2 years of experience working as an art handler within a fina art logistics company or similar experience in a gallery/museum environment
o Ability to work well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment independently and as part of a team
o Knowledge of and experience with gallery and museum crating and packing techniques
o Knowledge and experience with basic art installation techniques
o Creativity, flexibility, as well as problem solving skills and strong work ethic
o Good verbal and written communication skills; Attention to detail
o Basic computer knowledge and skills (Windows Platform)
