The Conservation Assistant works closely with the Conservator(s) and Mount Maker to support the work of preservation and conservation of the museum collection.

Fabrication of mats and folders for works of art on paper, fitting artwork into frames and un-framing for storage
Assist Framer with measuring artwork
Assist with the maintenance of works of art such as the cleaning of outdoor sculpture and polishing of silver. This may include the use of equipment and materials such as an air compressor and industrial steam cleaner
Participate in preparing condition reports for artworks
Participate in gallery maintenance, such as daily dusting in the galleries
Participate in lab maintenance, including cleaning and organization, maintaining inventories and maintenance of tools
Practice safe use of chemicals including organic solvents and dispose of hazardous waste properly
Monitor the temperature and humidity of galleries and storage sites
Assist in frame storage and inventory
Undergraduate Degree and one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and Photoshop
Knowledge of basic math, problem-solving, data collection, measurement, and documentation
Possession of good judgment, time management skills, and the ability to engage in creative problem solving
Ability to work well in a collaborative environment or to work independently when required
Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure, detail-oriented, good manual skills
Contribute to a positive organizational culture based on mutual respect, collaboration, and openness to many perspectives
Knowledge of digital photography desired
Art handling experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift mat board, Plexiglas, frames, and artwork.
Ability to climb ladders, work on lifts, stand for long periods of time, work outdoors and lift up to 50 pounds.
Good close, distant, color, peripheral, depth and focused vision required.
