The primary responsibility of the Crater is to build crates of various specification for the the proper care and transportation of art objects, antique and high-end furniture, fragile and artistic material. The Crater will also be responsible for documenting, labeling, and problem solving while following company policies and best practices. This position reports directly to the Crating Department Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Build custom crates, handle, pack and load Artworks, Antiques, High End Furniture and Objects in accordance with company standards and practices.

  • Work with Crateshop team in the fabrication and preparation of crates in advance of packing. (Foaming out crates, cutting and prepping bolsters, painting, assembling foam core boxes, etc.)

  • Unpacking, inspecting, and repacking of Artwork, Antiques, High End Furniture and Objects as required.

  • Monitor, maintain and complete the daily schedule as set forth by Crateshop Manager.

  • Work with other Crateshop, Warehouse and Transportation teams as necessary to complete given tasks.

  • Work closely with Department Heads, Account Holders, and Storage Registrars, to ensure crating jobs are completed as per the Account Holder’s instructions.

  • Accurately complete paperwork and ensure that each item, package, crate and items are labeled accurately and appropriately.

  • Communicate concerns, issues and/or problems with condition reports (condition of items), packing/crating orders, schedules, deadlines, etc. with management and account holders.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Maintain confidentiality of clients’ personal property and privacy.

  • Perform other tasks consistent with these responsibilities as required.

Requirements
  • Familiarity with the safe operation of power tools, hand tools and other shop equipment

  • Attention to detail

  • Capable of standing for extended periods of time to crouch, bend, squat, and kneel.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 100lbs

  • Experienced crate builders are preferred, but those with sufficient background in woodworking are encouraged to apply.
