California College of the Arts stands at the point of having unified its campus in San Francisco, CA with the Fall 2022 semester. CCA opened greatly expanded campus housing and for the first time in its history, a dining facility to fully meet the needs of its 700+ students living on-campus, commuter students, faculty, and staff. CCA is currently building its expanded San Francisco campus with the goal to expand the enrolled of the college to over 2,000 students. The Director of Auxiliary Services will play a key leadership role at the college to expand revenue and services through the portfolio of Auxiliary Services through cross-college partnerships to increase summer housing/conferencing, dining services that service as all of CCA’s stakeholders, and campus facilities rentals.
The Director of Auxiliary Services is responsible for the supervision of all College Auxiliary Services (CAS) contracted and self-managed operations; campus dining services, property management, vending, facility rentals, transportation, and parking. The DAS fosters excellence by championing new business strategies while streamlining operations processes. This position will promote positive Organizational change by developing the vision, values, and growth for the College Auxiliary functions. With senior leadership, this position oversees a cohesive model for Housing and Dining operations. With the support of several key departments, this position direct’s the strategy and vision of the college’s Auxiliary Services.
Housing Operations - 45%
- Oversee all operational aspects of opening the College’s new housing projects. Negotiate scope of work, and fees and oversee contracts for property management services for student housing facilities in San Francisco. Facilitate the Housing Operations team, a cross-divisional workgroup that includes teams from Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and the Business Office, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the residence halls. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure sound daily functions, including but not limited to; access control and security, facilities and maintenance, residential education, conduct, life and safety, accounting/billing, move-in and move-out operations, damage charges, mail/package systems, and front desk operations. Direct and oversee preparations for summer auxiliary housing programs, including institutional partnerships, non-CCA intern housing.
Occupancy Management & Leasing
- Direct leasing and assignments strategy and services. Ensure license agreements are accurate and compliant, revise as needed. Deliver timely and compliant reporting to the city of San Francisco.
- Develop annual marketing plan and deliverables. Define key messaging and write content for marketing emails and Portal. Collaborate with Enrollment and Marketing on messaging to all incoming students. Project manage all deliverables and delegate when possible.
Budget Management - 20%
- Provide oversight of the budget for all auxiliary functions, including but not limited to; Housing, dining, vending, parking, transportation, and facility rentals. Develop and execute a sound housing and dining rates strategy. Work cooperatively with the property manager to coordinate capital planning with annual budget planning. Perform budget analysis and projection. Provide training and instruction across departments to ensure a proper understanding of fiscal & contractual responsibilities for each property. In collaboration with the Business Office, Enrollment Services and Property Manager, and other stakeholders, ensure the college is fulfilling the 188 Hooper responsibilities to the Owner and Bond Holders.
- Oversee the contract with CCA’S dining service provider, Bon Appetit. Work to ensure excellence and contract fulfillment across all performance vectors, including customer service, technical systems, menu, and delivery. Conduct regular meetings with providers and assess/deliver performance feedback. Monitor and manage financial aspects of the contract. Manage competition of contract as needed. Implement catering procurement procedures. Write and enforce policies and procedures pertaining to meal plans, catering, special events, and special use of the dining hall. Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop a Marketing/Communications plan for the dining program, including but not limited to; student meal plans, Staff/Faculty plans, and general information to the public. Develop sustainability goals and parameters for the entire food service program. Write a vision and values statement to guide future dining program decision-making.
Transportation - 5%
- Oversee all transportation services, including but not limited to; shuttles, bike share, parking, scooters, carpool, and on-demand transportation. Oversee budget and fiscal strategy. Serve as point person for all parking/transportation questions, field emails, calls, and in-person conversations regarding transportation. Strategize with Campus planning partners on construction projects impacting traffic flow and safety near campus. Partner with Human Resources on employee transit benefits programs, monitor trends, and identify new opportunities.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5+ years related professional experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with creating, reviewing and understanding complex financial reports.
Entrepreneurial experience, ideally in a college/university environment or similar
Demonstrated experience in organizational change management
Experience with RFPs, negotiations and contract management for a broad range of services.
Excellent communications skills - in person and written - with experience in web-based and other digital communications
Experience in working in operations for a college/university or Institution located in a dense urban environment
Evidence of strong leadership ability
Excellent customer service skills
Strategic and analytical thinking skills to create and implement new processes, organizational ways of working, and implementation of new systems to help the college achieve operational excellence
Must have the ability to respond to difficult situations with tact and professionalism, troubleshoot independently, be a team player, and balance the educational benefit of the processes/policies with customer service.
Preferred Education and Experience:
A Master’s degree in related field is preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Drive/Documents/Sheets and software or cloud-based housing management system such as Entrada, StarRez or other housing management platform preferred.
Five years’ experience in university housing, multifamily housing, residential life, student affairs, higher education administration, or similar work responsibilities.
Experience working with diverse faculty and administration in an arts college of similar size.
