Atelier Fine Art Services is seeking an eager and qualified Art Handler for a full time (4-5 days a week) position to work as part of a team of art handers in the successful completion of art services tasks including, but not limited to, art installation, art transportation via box truck or van, art exhibition packing, art crating, and storage warehouse registration and organization. Fine art handlers who transport artwork prepare supplies, navigate their route, communicate with clients, and complete paperwork as a team/with a partner. The Art Handler must have a dedication to the Atelier culture of excellence in art stewardship, a clear understanding of tools and materials, awareness of museum best practices and standards, good hand skills, and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment while keeping a cool head. The Art Handler reports directly to the Art Technician or Project Manager for daily operations in the successful completion of each project and must have a clean-cut professional appearance at all times. Prior experience is required. Pay will be commensurate with prior experience.

Atelier FAS has several museum-quality storage facilities on the East Coast, and employs staff in the areas of Client Services, Logistics, Operations, Art Handling, Registration, Fabrication, Storage and Security.
Art Handler pay Scale: $22.23 - $26.04 an hour
Senior Art Handler pay scale: $26.04 - $27.94 an hour

Art handling of artworks of various media
Activities such as unframing and reframing of paintings and works on paper may be required, securing new hardware to frames, removal of objects from display cases, and the set-up and dismantling of scaffolding and ladders may be required
Responsible for keeping work space and collection storage areas maintained and clean
Completing other assignments as requested
Transporting, loading and unloading of artworks and supplies
Navigation or driving to project location along with teammate(s)
Condition reporting, facilitating of digital BOLs, labeling and other forms of client communication as necessary
Good understanding and judgment in the handling and conveyance of collection objects as it relates to the condition, media, placement, and weight of objects

Good verbal and written communication skills which will be used to maintain contact with other art handlers and office staff
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
Ability to work well with others plus the ability to work independently
Basic softpacking skills; familiarity with hand tools such as drills, hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches
Enjoy working in a collaborative environment and appreciation for the logistics involved with each project
Drivers license is required and experience driving box trucks is a plus (CDL not required)
Ability to complete DOT Medical Exam
BA or BFA with at least one-year experience art handling within, or for museums, cultural institutions, or galleries
Physical Requirements
Physically capable of lifting objects weighing up to 80 pounds; physically capable of moving objects weighing up to 150 pounds; and physically capable of climbing ladders up to 20 feet and working on scaffolding and lifts of at least 30 feet; physically capable of using hand tools such as drills, hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches
Some computer use plus the ability to see and ascertain the condition of artworks as they are being handled
Telephone use, and ability to hear instructions as an object is being handled and moved
Must be vaccinated against Covid-19
Driving Requirements:
- Drivers license required. Experience driving 26ft box trucks is a plus (CDL not required.)
