The Hole is seeking a Head Preparator with at least 2-3 years of experience. Responsibilities will include art handling, transportation, and installation. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, who oversees all shipping/delivery logistics, the ideal candidate will work closely with the Director and other art handling staff in order to handle inbound and outbound movement of artworks including properly packing and crating artworks for safe transportation and storage.

Safely and properly handle and pack/unpack artwork
Evaluate individual artworks to determine appropriate packing needs for local transportation
Drive pieces of art to and from client homes, galleries, framers, shippers, artist studios, etc.
Deliver and install sold artworks in client homes
Ensure all outbound artwork is in good condition and properly packed/crated for transport
Load and appropriately secure artworks for local transportation
Prepare artwork for private client viewings including hanging art, arranging lighting, and preparing viewing space
Update inventory database with packing information for all artwork passing through warehouse
Maintain organization of physical inventory
Organize packing materials, installation supplies, and tools needed for specific on-site jobs
Additional duties as assigned
2-3+ years’ experience working in art galleries or museums
Strong art handling, packing abilities, problem solving and installation skills
Valid Driver’s License is a must
Familiarity with driving a small box truck in NYC
Experience installing a wide range of artworks including large/oversized sculptures
Must be a problem solver and have a diverse understanding of different mediums and materials
Must be extremely diligent and careful in handling artwork
Ability to work well under pressure in fast-paced environment with a team of art preparators
Basic computer skills
Knowledge of ArtBase or comparable inventory data software a plus
BA in Fine Arts, Art History, or related field preferred
