The primary responsibility of the packing technician is to prepare artwork, objects and antiques for shipment via air, sea, road and FedEx. The technician will prepare shipments by packing and/or crating each piece as necessary in order to ensure safe transport to the final destination while following company policies and best practices. This position reports to the Packing/Crating Department Manager.
o Handle, pack, crate and store artwork, objects and antiques in accordance with Gander & White standards and practices
o Work closely with Packing Shop, Crating Shop and Account Holders to ensure shipments meet required deadlines
o Help to train new team members
o Accurately complete all packing and crating orders and ensure that each item, package, crate and shipment is labeled accurately and appropriately
o Generate accurate and descriptive condition reports and photo documentation when necessary
o TSA Air Cargo Screening certification; screen shipments for air freight
o Assist with scheduling and planning packing and crating operations
o Install and de-install works at local, regional and national art fairs
o Communicate concerns, issues and/or problems with condition reports (condition of items), packing/crating orders, schedules, deadlines, etc. with management and account holders
o Maintain a clean and safe work environment
o Maintain confidentiality of clients’ personal property and privacy
o 2 to 3 years’ experience working as an art handler in a gallery or shipping company environment
o Ability to work well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment independently and as part of a team
o Knowledge of and experience with gallery and museum crating and packing techniques
o Knowledge and experience with basic art installation techniques
o Creativity, flexibility as well as problem solving skills and strong work ethic
o Good verbal and written communication skills

o Basic computer knowledge and skills (Windows Platform)
